Overview
Integrating the Meta (Facebook) Pixel with Google Tag Manager (GTM) ensures accurate tracking of visitor activity on your website and Meritto widgets. This setup enables you to track key events such as page visits and lead submissions, helping you optimize Meta Ads campaigns with better data.
This guide covers how to add the Meta base pixel for tracking all pages and configure lead event tracking for Meritto widgets using GTM.
Adding base pixel of Meta for All Pages
- Log in to your Google Tag Manager account.
- Select your website's container and click Add a new tag.
- Click the Custom HTML tag and enter a name for your tag.
- Go to Meta Events Manager and select Add event.
- Select From a new website.
- Select Install code manually.
- Select Copy code to copy the entire Pixel base code.
- Return to Google Tag Manager and paste the code in the HTML container.
- Click the Advanced settings dropdown menu and select Once per page below Tag firing options.
- Below Fire on, select All pages.
- Click Create tag.
Adding Lead Event for Widgets of Meta for All Pages
- You must log in to the GTM container which attached with Meritto (i.e. the GTM with container ID added in Campaign Settings > Tracking Codes > Google Tag Manager for your account on Meritto)
- You need to first install AJAXListener (if not, already done).
- You need to also set up your Lead Conversion Trigger correctly (if not, already done).
- Now go to Workspace > Tags
- Click on “Create”
- In Tag Configuration, create of “Edit Icon”
- Choose “Facebook Pixel” from Custom Tags. If it’s not visible search from the search icon on top.
- As shown in the screenshot below, add your Facebook Pixel ID and choose “Custom Event”
- Now scroll down to add a trigger by clicking “Edit Icon” under “Triggering”

Choose your already configured trigger for widget
- Add name of your Tag and click “Submit”
- Test your event as discussed previously and ensure the Tag is fired correctly.
- Publish your container.
- On Meta, it may take up to 2 hours to start tracking event
- Check the event should be created under “Events Manager” on your Meta Business Manager

Now create your ads on this event going forward for more accurate tracking.
