- You must log in to the GTM container, which is attached with Meritto (i.e., the GTM with a container ID added in Campaign Settings > Tracking Codes > Google Tag Manager for your account on Meritto)
- You need to first install AJAXListener (if not, already done)
- The Next Step is to find the right triggers and events
- The Open "Preview" Mode of Google Tag Manager
- Enter the URL where your form is getting submitted (Please note, this has to be the page where Widget is present)
- A Google Tag Assistant Window will open up, which might look like the screenshot below. Find "Widgets Event" and ensure the "CU - AJAX Listener - LunaMetrics Plugin" tag is fired. This confirms you have added the "AJAXListener" correctly:
- An additional window of your entered URL (https://<yourURL>/?gtm_debug=xxxxxxxxxx) will open. This is your Debugging Window. Please wait and ensure 2 "Tag Assistant Pop-ups like the one shown below" are loaded - one in your overall page and another one in the "Widget". (⚠This may sometimes not appear due to lag or issues at "Google Tag Manager" app. In this case, try with another user, window, or device. In case, none of them work out, please reach out to "Google Support"):
- Please do not close any of these "Tag Assistant Pop-ups". You may choose to minimise (as highlighted in the image below):
- Please fill up the form and submit the lead
Now switch back to the "Google Tag Assistant Window". You need to find and click on "widgetthankyou" event under "Widgets" shown below: - Now Click on "widgetthankyou" and switch to "Variables" as shown below:
- Keep this page open or take a screenshot for future reference
- Now, go back to your container of Google Tag Manager.
- Add "Tags" and "Triggers" as required. For accessing "the widgetthankyou" event, please select "Trigger" Type as "Custom Event".
- In the "Event Name" mention "widgethankyou" exactly:
- Set up the "Custom Event" conditions based on the "variables" (in earlier steps). Please make sure to use "unique variables" as much as possible.
Refer to a few samples in the table below: - Now Test your tags and triggers once again to complete the setup for enhanced conversions or any other "form submission" type tags (like Facebook Pixel, Quora, etc.)
Conclusion
By following these steps, you can successfully identify and configure triggers for Meritto assets in Google Tag Manager. Ensuring that the correct AJAX Listener is installed and using the "widgetthankyou" event helps in capturing user interactions accurately. Always validate your tags and triggers through GTM’s Preview mode before finalizing the setup.
